Hoot Owls

Anyone else plagued by owls right now? Granted, we live deep in the woods, but we have so much property, you'd think that they'd find somewhere farther away from the house to hunt...like down by the creek!

We don't know how many there are, and I'm wondering if the momma is teaching her young owls how to hunt and that accounts for all the racket. Here is one young owl I got a picture of this summer. It was sitting on a low branch and still had fuzz on part of its body.

We have one native owl in New Zealand, but you don't see them very often. I find them fascinating. Occasionally, we hear them during the night, even though we're in town. Over the other side of the estuary there's farmland and sometimes they come over to the golf course. I imagine if you heard them every night it would get old quick.

The animals you have in New Zealand always fascinate me.

I don't mind the sound so much as the loudness when we are all trying to sleep. It sounds like there is a constant hoot hoot in our bedroom. lol
